Want holiday readers? Blog about local, seasonal businesses!
What do you blog about to get found locally? Bryan Robertson gives some great ideas on blogging to help you get found locally. You could also visit local businesses and blog about the business with gift ideas included in the blog.
Take a look at all the local seasonal businesses in your area, from Christmas Tree lots to stores and services catering to the holidays. I'll bet many of them either don't have a website (especially the tree lots) or the website they do have is not very high quality. I noticed this with a local Christmas tree lot. They not only didn't have a website, but nothing about their address, hours, or phone number. So, guess what? I'm going to blog about them!
When I did this for a local pumpkin patch, I got hundreds of hits on the blog article. That business had no website AT ALL and no contact information for hours, location, and phone number. Anyone doing a search on "saratoga pumpkin patch" came up with nothing useful. So, I wrote the article. The same business has a Christmas tree lot and they have almost no information online.
A little value add can go a long way. Here's what I suggest you do to write a simple blog about a seasonal local business:
- The Basics: Hours, address, dates open
- Creative Content: Write a bit about how long they've been around, your personal shopping experience, what makes this business so great.
- A Little Color: Add photos and video because these are often missing with the businesses own website.
Here's the rub, doing this could not only be good for you in terms of prospective readers on your blog, but also for the business. Let them know you've blogged about them and hopefully they'll appreciate it. They might even spread a little "holiday spirit" your way in the form of discounts or just a big "Thanks". Even if the business doesn't care, it'll still be good for you.
How do I find a local, seasonal business to blog about? Do a search on the terms likely to show the seasonal business you want to blog about, see what comes up, then write your blog. If you can use specific terms such as the city name and things like "christmas trees" you'll do well. It's very likely you'll go the top of the search rankings very quickly, maybe even #1. Some terms I recommend using include:
- Christmas trees
- Christmas tree farm
- Christmas tree lot
- Gift wrapping service
- Holiday shopper
- Christmas dinner
- You get the idea...
