Dont recognize that phone number? It could be money calling, so answer it!

What do you do when you do not recognize that phone number?  Do you send it straight to voicemail or do you answer it?  If you do send it to voicemail, then you know that people do not leave messages over 50% of the time.  If that was a potential buyer or seller, they probably moved on and called the next agent that they found online.  What a shame though, beacause it was money calling!  It was a buyer who was pre-qualified and ready to buy, or a seller that was ready to sit down for a listing appointment tomorrow.  Either way, there is a good chance you will never know.  If you send them through to voicemail and they do not leave a message, you can always call them back.  The problem with this is that by the time you call back, they already got their question answered and had a wonderful conversation with your competition.  Granted, there are numerous times when it is rude or unprofessional to answer the phone.  These are the exceptions.  The phone calls that I am talking about are the ones where you simply do not answer because you do not recogninze the number.

So, the next time your phone rings and you do not recognize the number, answer it!  It could be money calling!

More and more telemarketers harvesting, using your cell numbers than ever though. Sunday, nights, the caller peddling a product, service with the others in the boiler room heard talking... love those calls, intrusions.

You are so right Andrew, and it is annoying.  I was about to give a telemarketer, who was calling from the San Diego area code, a piece of my mind last year, when the gentlemen on the other end mentioned the words "ActiveRain" so I calmed down.  It turns out that he had short sale listings to sell here in Aventura and simply wanted to work out a referral arrangement.  There were 3 high end luxury condos, and my share of the commissions was over $30k.  Since that phone call, I have no choice but to look at that call differently

James ~ This post is so true! I actually look forward to calls on my cell, especially the ones that aren't in my contacts. 4 out of 5 times they are potential clients.
