The ideal flooring choices are hard wood or pergo for the main living areas such as the living room, dining room, and hallways. Travertine tile is also popular in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways.
Buyers typically like carpet in the bedrooms and family room if the target market is a family with young children.
Make sure your carpets are spotless before you put your house on the market. You can call a carpet cleaner or rent a steam cleaner. If you have permanent stains or very worn carpet, consider replacing it with a neutral beige carpet.
I am not a fan of giving buyers a carpet allowance since buyers are using as much money as possible to buy your house.
Buyers typically will “punish” you by offering about 10% less than they would have if the carpet wasn’t an issue.
