Do you like to moon? Full Wolf Moon TONIGHT!

Moonrise in Sonoma County

Did you know that each full moon has a special name? Tonight we will have our fist full moon of 2012, the Full Wolf Moon. Below is a list of full moons for 2012 including their name and date. It has been sunny and dry here in Sonoma County, the moonrise should be spectacular.

Jan 9: Full Wolf Moon

Feb 7: Full Snow Moon

Mar 8: Full Worm Moon

Apr 6: Full Pink Moon

May 5: Full Flower Moon

Jun 4: Full Strawberry Moon

Jul 3: Full Buck Moon

Aug 1: Full Sturgeon Moon

Aug 31: Full Corn Moon

Sep 29: Full Harvest Moon (a favorite here in Sonoma County Wine Country)

Oct 29: Full Hunter's Moon

Nov 28: Full Beaver Moon

Dec 28: Full Cold Moon

So that's it. Thirteen full moons to enjoy in 2012. Get those cameras ready!

Cynthia, All I know is during the drive to work yesterday morning the moon was still fully visible in the western sky, and last night, well it was throwing enough light that I could look into the woods clearly without any need of a flashlight! Pretty bright moon :)

Anna Banana - I did a bit of howling myself. I can't wait to see if my photos turned out.

Donna - I just learned this last year. I knew of the Harvest Moon but that was it.

Deborah - yes, this photo was taken in Santa Rosa.

Katerina - who knew! I sure didn't until last year!

BLiz - The moon has been so bright ... I'm going to try to get a photo of every moon this year ... if the weather cooperates.

Hi Cynthia,

Just stopped by because I saw you name on something and realized it was the exact name of my favorite niece in SoCal.

However, loved this because I'm such a big fan of watching the moon, especially when it gets even near to full. I've got glass doors from my bedroom and love seeing my entire back yard illuminated at times like that. Btw, I had no idea they had individual names.
