Get Noticed by Getting Involved!

By
Real Estate Agent with Southern Homes of the Carolinas

As a Realtor, you should always be looking for ways to meet more people.  I think a great way to meet those people is to get out into the community and be VISIBLE doing things that you love and that better the place that you live and work in everyday!  This is a great way to expand your sphere of influence while letting people know that you care about the community and that you are a REAL person, not just a Realtor looking to make a buck.  Please be careful about getting involved in things for the wrong reasons!  People aren't stupid and they can tell the difference between someone that is involved in the community simply to get "face time" and someone that has true intentions of bettering the community. Everyone has something that they feel passionate about, so figure out what makes you tick and step up to the plate!

I am a major animal lover, so I have held fundraisers for our local animal shelter.  The fundraisers have been a huge success and have allowed other people to take notice of the fact that I have given back to a great cause within our community.  Do animal lovers buy and sell houses?  The answer is YES!  I also help out animals on a national level by having a link on my website that goes directly to the The Animal Rescue Site.  Every time someone clicks on the purple link on my website, food and care are provided to animals in need, FOR FREE!  Check out the link on website at http://www.buyandsellwithsara.com/

I also organize neighborhood events such as garage sales, cook-outs, and fundraisers.  This way, my neighborhood has a chance to get to know each other and to get involved in the community themselves.  Since I live in a relatively new neighborhood, it is nice to play a part in getting the neighbors together to create that sense of community within our neighborhood.  I know that they appreciate the efforts that I put into our neighborhood.  I have had multiple listings within my neighborhood and I feel that is a direct result of my committment to the neighbors that live in it, not necessarily the money that I have spent sending marketing materials to them.  Anyone can send a postcard, it takes more effort to actually get involved with those people and show them that you care.

As a former elementary teacher, I feel strongly about education, and love to be involved in the schools.  I have found that with my flexible schedule I can substitute occasionally in the local elementary schools.  It's fun to get in there and meet the little members of the community as well.  I understand the importance of our schools and I choose to be more involved than simply sponsoring school events.  I have received referrals and have worked with buyers and sellers that I have met through working at the schools.  It is certainly a win-win situation for everyone involved!

Don't forget to advertise your good deeds on your website!  I add information to the "Special Events" section of my website.  People like to look at the pictures and share the information with their friends.  You will be surprised how happy people are to give you referrals when they feel that they share a common bond with you and you're certainly at the top of their list when they need a Realtor!  Get active to get noticed!!

If an agent is not ACTIVE, then they aren't doing their job!  I'm always amazed at the people who say that they are too busy to be a part of their community.  At the end of the day folks, we don't sell houses, we sell the community!  If you aren't in it to win it then you are shorting your sellers, your buyers and your business!

Well said!

Be of service, the rewards will come!
