The New Time Stamp on AR comments

Ontario Real Estate Source

By Brian Madigan LL.B.

There is some new information on AR. It is the time, in terms of posting comments. It will now say “1 hour ago” etc. So, it’s relatively easy to determine how long it is taking to post comments.

I suppose previously, I never really kept track of the time element.

I am finding the process far too costly in terms of time. And, this is a regular daily investment in AR. Blogging is one thing. If it takes an additional minute to post a 500 word post, then so be it. That post has value. But, AR comments are particularly related to points, and points only. 10 comments per day produce 250 points which is 1,750 points per week, or 91,000 points per year. So, that would be a rather significant point reduction in terms of contributions, if I should choose no longer to participate.

I note that there are several contests probably averaging about 60,000 points annually which are available for participation. I no longer find them particularly advantageous.

I note that yesterday, it again took over one hour to post 10 comments. I think it should take 15 to 20 minutes. The time delay seems to be clicking on any of the buttons to move around the site, plus the submit button when you have finally written a comment. On average, that simple task alone seemed to take 40 to 70 seconds. One time only would be fine. But, this would be 366 hours this year.

So, at this point, the real question is the essential advisability of continued, active, regular, participation in the AR point system. The difficulty, I find right now is the significant delay moving around the website and uploading comments. I suppose I can make a reasonable rationalization for actual Blogging, but beyond that, the further rather significant time investment now seems questionable.

There is a time factor. It is that reason why some days I make two comments, some ten.

Brian - That would certainly make me think twice about participating. Double check you connection speed. I don't seem to have the same delay issues you are refering too. Just wondering if connection speed has anything to do with what you are seeing. Good luck!

Brian, I have never kept track of this as I often have multiple windows open... I am going to see how long it takes for this comment to post and update my comment to let you know.  This comment took less than 5 seconds to post and reload.

It could of course be the connection. I am using other computers at many times, so I can't alter that.

5 seconds, I can live with. That would be fine.

Actually, my last comment took less than 3 seconds.

Brian - the speed of AR and the time consumed for the direct results is becoming a factor here as well ..... Barrie is examining alternatives but we all have so much invested here there is a reluctance on our part to go elsewhere

I'll be interested in what Barrie has to say about all this.

Hi Brian - I don't like the new "posted a minute ago, posted an hour ago or 10 hours ago".  It is too social media like.  I prefer actual date and time stamps.

Like Chris, I also have multiple windows open at one time.  Thus, sometimes I may have several comments being submitted while I am reading something else.

HI Brian,

Interesting we are all obviously becoming more and amore aware of the challenges, and we all hope that AR will get it fixed and moving much faster soon, other wise this service (like other before will become victim to is own success

I'd be happy to go back to the way we were. My major concern is the downtime associated with moving around the site.

Basically, I have 20 minutes for 10 comments, not 70 minutes.

Brian, I agree time is scarce in our business now that we are workin on and offline at the same time. Even when I am posting early from MT, it is already 2 hours in the east or the start of another day somewhere else on the globe. BTW, I find my speed here now depends on the browser. IE is the slowest.

It also takes me about an hour to comment, an hour and a half if I can't find anything interesting to comment on. That is a significant investment in time but rarely do I give up the points. I wish it was faster.

Ah, yes, Brian, the time factor seems to have not diminshed at all.  In fact, because of my computer speed slowing down as well, I am taking forever, like the tortoise.  But, I continue to move in an upward trajectory which wasn't the case last summer when I was losing a 1,000 points a day some days.
