Cotton in Virginia Beach

Don't look now but there is cotton in Virginia Beach.  No really.  There is at least one cotton farm left.  I have driven by it several times but didn't think much about it.  You can see it driving down Princess Anne Rd towards the Municipal Center.  The farm is about 7 acres, a far cry from the plantations that used to be around these parts.  For a recent history, the rest of the land was sold to R.G. Moore who wanted to turn it into a mini-city but that flopped and now we have a great golf course among other items to thank him for.  The family, the Sawyers, still own about 20 acres in the area and do a lot of farming down North Carolina way.

Yes I have seen the cotton farm!  I live down by there!  I had no idea how big it was though.

Denise, That is an interesting piece of history of which I was unaware.  I would have thought you grew tomatoes much as they do on the Eastern Shore, Karen Kruschka www.e-virginiarealestate.com
