When K & R married two years ago, they took public vows and made a private vow as well: They would be out of their rental home and into their own home THIS year/2007.
Now, they went on-line and asked for help finding a REALTOR(r) and already had a mortgage company picked out. They had also saved a substantial amount of money for a down payment and for closing costs, which many first-time Buyers don't have the wherewithal to do! Once I met with them, it was clear to me that they were entirely focused on purchasing a home in Colonialtown in Orlando. Truly, they were FIERCE savers when it came to saving for their downpayment; they only ate home-prepared meals and put every cent into the bank.
After listening intently to the type of house they were looking for and paying special attention to the area in which they were interested, we looked at a total of 5 homes and they always came back to talking about the house they really loved but it was too pricey. So, we talked again about what they REALLY wanted for themselves (a "charming" home that they could stay in for a LONG time) and their 5- and 10-year plans and they decided to buy the house that was a little out of their price range but that they loved and had the charm they were looking for and that wasn't "cookie-cutter."
They bought the house in November and moved into it shortly after having the wood floors refinished. They were able to spend the holidays in an awesome home that they OWN. Happy Holidays!
