My Baby Cardinals Grew Up and Now They Are Gone on Speechless Sunday

They were standing on the edge of their world ready to take flight. We had to go out and when we returned, they were gone, the nest was empty. I feel sad that I didn't see them go.

Baby Cardinals

Maybe there will be another family in the empty nest soon.

It's in very good shape-just needs a little updating :)

Toni: They are braving the world and learning as they go...so like our own children who leave the nest to start their own lives.

My high school mascot was the Cardinal.  They were always outside my bedroom windo.

Thomas - what a great thought. Thank you.

Larry & Sheila - yes I was able to and I'm thrilled for that. Thanks

Anita - that's so true and we are afraid for them too but have to let them go.

Kathy - I love the cardinals; we watch them all the time. The nest is in good shape so it will probably be used again.

Howdy and morning Toni

Toni my friend, its sure fun to watch baby Birds as they grow each day. Then when its time for them to leave the nest, its sure mighty enjoyable to watch take their first flight. It is sad when we miss seeing the babies go.

Have a good one

We once had a family of nuthatch in the nesting box just off our deck.  It was really fun for a couple of days as they learned to fly.  They would come out of the box and walk on it's roof while mom and dad would show them how to take off and land.  Then finally one by one they would take short little flights while chirping with delight....(sort of like look at me I'm airborne).  After a couple of days they were gone out on their own to start the whole process again.  Such is life!!

There has to be a bit of bittersweetness with the flying away of your baby Cardinals, Toni!  I've been in that situation a few times too.  But, I wouldn't be surprised if that nest gets used once again, in a future season.

Toni,

I agree with Myrl, they will be back.. I love your remark of the nest needing updating.  I am wondering if they start all over because the scent of the previous owners is still there, and they want to put their own mark on a new one!  A

Toni- I remember your original post on them.  I know how you feel... when I see the empty nests out at Green Cay.  But, yes, they will return.

Dale - I think I'm more worried about them. We have a hawk family in the area too.

Joan - yes, they did-the little ingrates!

Roger - hope you get to enjoy the whole experience.

John - I sure am and I loved it.

Jeanne & Ralph - I think I was disappointed in not seeing that process. It was a busy week and we missed it all.

Myrl - I'm sure it will. In fact probably by the same couple. They stay together and have several broods over the warm months.

Kristin - thanks- I'm sure we'll get new residents soon.

Rob - enjoy!!

Alexandra - it will probably be the same couple but if not, they usually just pull out the fluffy stuff that lined the nest and put in new, clean stuff. I put my dryer fluff outside on a tree branch for them to use. :)

Kathy - they will. I always feel sad when my babies leave :( but I'll get over it.

Hi Toni,

I am so sorry you missed them too but maybe they will come back to say hello. Like Roy says, have your camera ready for them to stop in and say hello grandma.
