Guess What I Was Doing Today??

By
Home Stager with Rooms With Style

Guess what I was doing today. Yes....go ahead and guess. I know you won't believe it.

I was moving my 2000 square foot warehouse with:

  • 8 huge sections of commercial racking filled with small furniture pieces.

Warehouse Move

  • 30 shelving units filled with glass, plates, candles, olive oil jars...you get the picture.

  • 18 pallets for sofas   Warehouse move

  • Two huge sections of specially built artwork holders.

  • Two 15 foot tables filled with lamps.

And then there was the heavy stuff like dining room tables and chairs. LOL

Warehouse Move

The good news is this is the most empty my warehouse has ever been since I have been swamped!

Didn't I just do this you ask? Yup.....a year and a half ago but my Landlord made me move due to someone that had right of first refusal. The good news is I only had to move next door so no loss of time putting it into a truck and driving somewhere else.

A three year lease this time with ME having first right of refusal!

My Landlord is great and tried to make it as easy as possible for me so he brought 6 guys, I brought 2 and we had it done so much quicker this time. Still tired, still sweaty, still sore but it is done. Whew....

Hope your day wasn't as industrial!

Shar- pardon me... I have to sit down.  Whew!  I'd love to have to have a warehouse like that.  With every vacant home staging I could go and "shop" my warehouse!  Hope you're relaxing with a nice cold beverage (adult or otherwise).

Shar, boy you have been busy. Take a bath and sit back and read, you'll relax in no time.

I can't imagine the inventory you have. I thought stagers lived out of the trunk in their cars. LOL but I really had no idea how much inventory you own and how you store it. Can you buy things as a right off expense? And do you get discounts because of profession....never thought to ask.

I am sooooo busy Janice. That is why I haven't been on the Rain much lately and miss alll you guys.

I think tomorrow should be much easier Hannah!

I just had 2 adult beverages Kathy! Yes.....most people want to come 'shop' my warehouse. I have a ton of stuff and luckily all my sofas were out and I only had maybe 6 DR tables in, racking was 3/4 empty.

Yes, all of the items I purchase are a business expense Ellen. I get some discounts but many times I need things quickly and but them at furniture stores, not wholesale. My favorites give me good pricing though since I am there so much. LOL. My trunk is 2000 sq ft. plus racking 15 feet high.....big trunk, very big. LOL

Shar ~ Your photos are a familiar sight to many of us!  It was a good thing you only moved next door, and your landlord provided some of the needed "muscle."  It's so busy this time of year it's hard to get back in the Rain for me, too!!  Good luck getting settled in to your new place.

This is exactly what came into my mind. You just moved in! Well great that it was a close by move. I like your art work storage solution.

I remember the last move Shar............glad this one was much closer and easier.  You had to be "whacked" though, that's a chore.  BTW, you have quite an inventory there, very cool.

Thanks Wendy. Having the right shelving makes all the difference!

That extra muscle was such a blessing Maureen! Each week I think it will slow down and it doesn't! All good though.

That artwork storage thing I had built Anna is the best!!

I think you would love my inventory Roger. Lot's of black pieces. LOL

Thanks Debbie. Big warehouse, big project. :)

So... that's where you've been. I've been wondering about you (smile).

It looks awesome, Shar. I'm so envious you have a space as large as that. Question - how are you storing your bedding? I need a better solution than the one I have now.

Thanks in advance.

Kathy

I have been missing everyone Kathy! I have been so busy since the first of the year I cannot even believe it. Bedding is still a tough storage thing for me too Kathy. The absolute best for me is keeping it in the original zip bag it came in. I finally learned how they are folded to get it back in those bags no problem. Since I have done that and kept the bags it stays organized and small enough for them to fit on my shelves. The  ones that are in garbage bags before I knew that trick (and threw the original bag away) are big and bulky and a mess! Should I do a tutorial on how to fold the comforter to get them back in that bag? LOL

Shar, It must be an amazing feeling to know exactly what you have in inventory.  I also have been busy since mid January, and can hardly believe how much inventory I still have on hand.  Makes me think I might have a little shopping problem!

I saw Kathy's question about bedding and thought I would share my system.  I take the comforter and fold it into thirds.  I then lay out the pillow cases, bed skirt, matching valances if available, pillow shams etc on top of it. To finish I roll it up like a sleeping mat and tie it with cord.  I love that the whole set stays together, is easy to store, doesn't get too wrinkled in storage and can be done in no time flat.

If I find the time I am going to take the system one step further and use color coded cords so it is easier to differentiate the twin sets from the queen sets.

Hope that helps!

Shar - I totally feel your pain since we moved for the second time in a year a couple of months ago. It's absolutely exhausting but such a relief once everything's finally back in place.

My holiday weekend will be spent putting away the inventory from three houses that came back this week.

I certainly did Lisa!

Wow Christi that is a great system! For those that no longer have bags I am going to do that. The color coded cords are a good idea too. Oh and BTW, I think all stagers have a shopping problem. LOL

It is a good feeling to have the move done and everything neat again Lynn. Let's see how long that lasts. :)

I didn't weed out anything Valerie. This came up quickly so just had to get it moved! LOL I had a big warehouse sale just over a year ago so alot had been weeded out fortunately.

That is quite a puddle Sally, trust me I know! Ha. I do have a huge inventory and luckily for me 3/4 of it was out at houses so it made the move so much easier. At least over a dozen sofas out, just as many DR tables, probably over 2 dozens LR chairs out and dozens and dozens of side tables and coffee tables out so the best time ever to move!
