UBUNTU - The REAL Meaning of Teamwork!

The NEW Meaning of Teamwork - UBUNTU

An Anthropologist suggested the following game to a group of children in an African tribe... He placed a basket full of fresh fruit under a tree.  Then he said, whoever reaches the basket first in a race will be the winner of all the fruit.

As he gave the signal to begin the race, the whole group held hands and ran in unison to the tree.  Then they sat down and enjoyed the prize together.

When asked why they had done such a thing, they replied; "UBUNTU"... 'How could one of us be happy (feel happiness) while the rest are in despair (unhappy)?'

In the Xhosa culture, Ubuntu means: "I am, because we are."  Perhaps we could all learn a thing or two from the Xhosa people ;)))

Melinda... what a wonderful way of thinking.  A great  philisophy to live one's life by.  Thanks so much for such an inspiring story.  IF ONLY more folks thought like this... what a wonderful world this would be.

But... then again, some supply-side, trickle-down economics conservatives would call it Socialism, and try to scare everyone.

A society that lives primarily as a "me first" society will ultimately fail.  We ARE our brother's and our sister's keepers.  We must either "swim together" or we will sink together.

I found this post re-blogged by Kathy this morning. It's a winner! Of course I had to suggest. If ActiveRain gave out Oscars for the best blog posts of 2012, I would vote for this one to be the winner.

I love the spirit of those children and the meaning behind the word. This story truly tugs hard at my heart. This story of yours needs to go on National Television!!!

During this time of the Olympics, this story says it all about competiokn and good sportsmanship. It's the BEST I've read today and in many previous posts too.

Thank you Mel.

We cooperate in some activities and we perform as individuals in others. Probably would not get the same result in a US setting. Cultural norms differ, sometimes a group effort works, and other times we have to strike out on our own. Just one opinion.
