Don't Worry ~ It's Just a Bat

Mary Yonkers

I found a bat on my front porch early this morning and like a true addict of ActiveRain and FaceBook I had to grab the camera.  Keep in mind that the whole process of taking two picturess took more than just a bit of courage from this former city girl.

Of course Dave said, "Mary, it's just a bat."

I was too busy this morning to post so here's his 'mug shot.'

Curiosity made me look outside and lo and behold the bat is still there.

Well, I will tell you that he will stay there until Dave gets home to dispose of him.   (Guess, I am still a city girl at heart.)

To be safe I will submit this post in the group  Do Not Worry ~ Today

If you need to vent your concerns or troubles, write a post and submit to the group Do Not Worry ~ Today and your friends here at ActiveRain will be here to comfort and support you.

Just take a broom and sweep him into the air!  Maybe he'll fly away.

Perhaps a bat on your front porch is a sign of good luck or maybe that would be the story I would tell myself!

Mary, I am not the biggest fan of bats either!  I am glad that we don't have many of them around here!

Connie--Yuk!  The bat is gone.  Thank goodness Dave swept him away. (He was dead so nothing to really worry about, I guess.)

Barbara--Country or not, most of us don't like certain things, but we can deal with most anything.

Tony & Darcy,  How lucky you are.  But I am sure you have other not-so-nice critters to deal with.

Mary, Bats are ugly little creatures, aren't they? I wouldn't mess with him either. It's man's work.

BAHahahahahaHA! You are so funny! Good thing you didn't touch him. I hear they can carry rabies. I think they are kind of cute, but don't want to love up on one. That's what the dogs and cats are for. Oh yeah, and Rick! :)))

Mary, just a bat?  These fellows are creepy looking.  Once my cat dragged one in through the cat door in the kitchen and it was flopping around the floor.  Ick!

Hi Mary,

Growing up as a kid, did you ever dream one day you'd get a good shot at a bat! Nice photograph! Oh the things we do for ActiveRain. I know that had to draw a lot of courage. I'm glad it was you and not me! You'd still hear me screaming all the way over there from here!

Right on, Debbie.

Joni--love your sense of humor.

Pat K, creepy is the right word unless you are a scientist.

Patrica F, We could have had a screaming contest in the Rain (AR).

Thanks everyone for your comments.  Even though it was scarey I had fun posting and commenting here.  Now onto other things.

Aaaw, poor little thing. We have them all over the place up here Mary, and they are actually very good at keeping the insect population down. People encourage them to stay in their yards by building bat houses.

My cat Brandon once brought a bat to bed. In the middle of the night, he woke me up sitting on the bed with a bat in his mouth and growling. Because if he opened his mouth to meow, the bat would have flown away. Yeah, it was alive!

Malcolm,  okay, okay. I get it.  Quit being such a whoosh.  I am okay with bats flying around my yard but don't come up on my front porch.  Yikes!

Elizabeth,  Ugh!  On the positive side Brandon was trying to do his job as the protective cat.  If he hadn't who knows where that bat might have ended up.

Take a broom and sweep it away.  Is #1 nuts.  I wouldn't open the door.  I can't believe you took a picture. City girl here too.

Liz,  I waited untl my husband came home to dispose of dead bat.  Yes, he was dead which is why he didn't flinch when I took his mug shot.  (I am city girl who lives in the country.  I love the beauty, but not bugs and bats.)

Roy,  Yes, bats eat insects as they are flying not when they are on my front porch.  Thanks for the orange flower.
