Why Are People Afraid Of New Technology

By

Why are people afraid of new technology? Is it because they are afraid of the unknown? Is it they don't want to take the time to learn something new?

It is technology that has brought us to the 20th Century, without it, we would all still be reading by the light of a lantern and writing with a Quill. We wouldn't have our MLS Technology that has changed how properties are marketed and sold.

As Realtor's we have available all kinds of new technology to help make our job easier. Smart Phones, IPad, Mobile Apps, so many it can become a little overwhelming at times.  And of course most of this technology comes with a price tag.

I pick and choose what technology is worth the money and is a real benefit to my job. Docusign is the one form of technology that has made my life easier and also the lives of my clients who are not afraid to use it. Gone are the days of faxing or scanning sheets that just wouldn't go through. Now right from my desktop I create my contracts and through Docusign I am able to get them signed quickly and back to me with no problems.

If you have not tried Docusign, please do, it saves me so much time and the clients who are not afraid of it, love it. Usually once you explain to them how it works and that it is endorsed and accepted by the National Board of Realtors, they will be more willing to use it.

I write this blog because just today I have encountered an agent who is afraid of this technology and it is back to the fax machine we all wish was never invented, oh yes, let me not forget, that was new technology at one time!

Hi Ginny - Im like you.  I don't pick up every new program or system or app, but I do pick and choose the ones that appeal to me and that I will use to my benefit.  I think part of why some folks don't want to learn new stuff is due to what I call the MTV syndrome.  That was the first stuff on tv that had the fast moving camera techniques and flashing back and forth between two scenes.  At first it made everyone dizzy, and now many folks are bored if things don't bounce and jump and they have to sit still to read and study something.  JMHO.

Thanks for the great comments.  I too continue to sift thru new technology as it becomes available.  I am pleased to say that I have not yet tried Docusign but after reading your post I will now try it out.  I'm all about making things easier for myself and my clients and if this will help me, I'll use it.  Thanks.
