Things That I Learned When My Family Was Visiting (Part 1)Bee Sting

That I'm NOT allergic to bee stings!

I've never been stung by a bee in my life.  On Thursday evening, I attended a ribbon cutting for a new local business, Parker Pedicab.  Mr. Pedicab, Mark Lane and his lovely wife, Tia provided pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw, macaroni salad, chips and cookies for dessert. Of course I had a pulled pork sandwich (with coleslaw ON the sandwich-yum!)

I took my sandwich and sat down with some folks that I didn't know (the whole point of a networking/ribbon cutting event, right?)  While we were eating, several bees were buzzing around us. The gal I was sitting next to told me that one time she ate a bee because it flew in to her bottle of Sassparilla and she couldn't see it. (Sassparilla for those who don't know is something like root beer or birch beer and generally comes in a brown bottle, so you can't see through it.)

Not 5 minutes after I heard that story, my tongue felt funny.  Yup, you guessed it.  I ate a bee too, but this one stung my tongue on the way down.  How do I know, you might ask.  I found the stinger in my tongue.  It swelled (not much) and I was talking funny (not really, but I was pretending).  A vanilla milk shake from Baskin Robbins that my sister bought for me, made it feel much better.

I thought about sharing the photo of my swollen tongue that my sister took, then decided you didn't really want to see the inside of my mouth.

Now that is a funny story Donna.   That's not a real fun way to find out that you are not allergic to bees.   Oh yeah, how was the sandwich otherwise?

I was stung by a bee for only the second time in my life about three weeks ago. It hurt a little, but 15 minutes later it was as if it never happened. Eleven days later my toe and part of my foot turned bright red, swelled and began itching beyond belief. Eleven days! No idea why it took so long. I took a couple benedryl every four hours for two days (and nights) before it went away. Hope something similiar doesn't happen to you, but thought I'd mention it could.

Regina~ Thankfully the swelling didn't last long.

Jim~ Otherwise the sandwich was pretty good.

Bill~ I milked it for all it was worth that night! Hubby felt really bad for me.

Gretchen~ How strange.  It took 11 days to turn red, swell and itch.  I hope that doesn't happen to me.

You are wrong, we all want to see your swollen tongue.  Good for you for networking at the ribbon cutting ceremony.  Sounds like it was fun and exciting.

Scott~ I just thankful I didn't have to visit the ER while my family was here visiting me!

Evelyn~ It was fun and exciting. I have some photos to share too.  My mom and I went for a ride around the park and so did my sister and niece.

Tom~ I was talking like that for a while on Thursday night.  Mostly just to make people laugh!

Debbie G.~ You can barely notice it now.

Roger~ It was not at all pleasant.

Janna~ My mom already wrote about it in her diary!

Hi Donna, very funny but thank goodness, not dangerous.  Swelling of the mouth and tongue can interfere with breathing but you were okay-always carry benedryl to picnics!

That would kill me. I swell up so much when I get stung. I'm starting to overcome my allergy, but I still get very swollen, and if stung around the head or neck area...well I could stop breathing.

I'm glad you are okay.
