Are we living in a state of fear?  I think that generally, we are.  "Global warming".  It's not PC to even question somebody whe they speak about global warming as if it is fact.  Never mind the inconvenient, cold, hard facts.  The news media appoints themselves takes it upon themselves to creat negative situations, which most people just take for the truth.

Today, I just read another article about how real estate agents are "bailing out" and "packing up"  due to the slumping housing market.  Did the housing market across the country just happen on its own, or was it fueled by the news media.  I'm sure that some markets were a bit super heated and may have required a market correction, but it seems to me that the media tried to scare everyone into sitting on their hands.

Based on what I see, our market is still pretty strong, but it could start tilting the other way.

I just wonder what the market, left to its own, might have done without all the negative hype.

The media at times likes to dwell on only negatives...after all, they will get more viewers or readers if the headline or into is negative. We have been having a hard time with our local paper who seems to want to only run the negative as a whole rather than what is positive locally.

Not sure though how to answer you question... more important is How would things be if they reported it on a regional basis rather than lump it all into one area.

Thanks Philip- You're right on.  Funny how the strong economy wasn't mentioned much, but now they want to take us into a recession.  Hmmm.  Makes you wonder.  Here, we  have a strong energy industry, which means jobs and the builders are showing up from everywhere to keep up with the demand.  Ulimately, this will soften prices a bit and make it more of a buyers' market, or maybe just a normal market.

Brian- a regional-based report would make too much sense and not serve the media's shameless self-serving interests.  They're too lazy to actually do any fact-checking.  It's much easier for them to just march in lock-step with whatever the current marching orders are and whatever is easiest for their consumers to consume.  I guess, if you think about it, the consumers are to blame as well, for not demanding professional journalism.

Ain't that the truth...if the media started tomorrow saying everything was great..people would start buying homes I am convinced of that...

I think we all need to do blogs about the positives in our markets.  Have you noticed that the media isn't covering how great the rates are right now? I believe if we surveyed 10 people on the street, 7 of them would not know where a 30 yr. fixed rate was at.

I've been getting more showings and phonecalls on my listings over the past 3 weeks. My builder took a deposit.  Many of the calls I am getting are from 1st time buyers.  Keep reporting on the positives in your market!

I agree.  I'm kind of a "glass 1/2 full" type anyway.  If we want to live like the media folks, I guess we could make ourselves absolutely miserable all of the time.  But life is short, so I figure look for the positives and be grateful for what we have.  Life really is quite good.  We're spoiled, which is why most people don't think for themselves anymore and just let the media tell them what to think and do and for whom to vote.

I'm kind of lucky, 'cause I live in a place where it's easy to be happy.  We have a strong economy, low taxes, low crime, pretty landscapes and views, great people and an awesome lifestyle.

The difference between adversity and adventure is ATTITUDE!
