Hi Melissa, thanks for this info. While I have a pinterest account, I have not spent much time on it, there is just so much time in a day, perhaps in the future, when I get a few other things automated, I can do more with pinterest.
It's a shame, I think many people were under the impression that it was a premium source of link love.
Wow ... I REALLY appreciate the information. We are working on our team links right now, tagging etc. and this is very useful information. I love the site too! Thank you for providing the links to your sources .... I am kind of a "techie" at least more so than some, and it would appear that you are as well so I really appreciate it.
Okay.... you bubble burster you. I, too, failed to see that memo. I also went and read the article that you linked to, which was interesting.
Thanks for sharing.
Kathy
I did know that Pinterest is a no-follow site, but I love it for the visual-eye-candy factor and it also serves well as an "online binder" for stuff I want to keep track of and later share with clients or friends. I love the site and think it's a great addition to the mix -- and it's a LOT more fun to use than many others as well.
Kathy - I think it is probably more fun than business, but depending on how you use it can be both.
Malcolm - Since it started out as a dofollow, I missed the memo that it changed.
Lisa - Yes, I like the techy stuff... well, some of it.
Morris - I think probably not, since they already had it as a dofollow and switched it to nofollow
Kathy N. - I'm glad I wasn't the only one who missed the memo
Marti - another cookie? Yay me! Now I feel really special!
Maureen - why does the word "binder" make me laugh these days? I agree, and I use it for keeping track of stuff for customers too.
Hi Melissa,
Thanks for a very informative article! The links may be SEO-useless but that makes it even a better venue for building relationships and maintaining them by interaction! Marketing anything needs to incude that aspect and there is still value (in my mind anyway). Suggested!!
Dorie - I agree and tend to use Pinterest as a great social tool, as well as something I use to gain inspiration for my customers, or show them specific ideas for their home.
UPDATE... if you happen to be following along, I just added some new info to the blog. Go back to the above post.
Melissa - How interesting. Great article you attached regarding Pinterest's benefits, even though it's "no follow". I like the idea that the site will eliminate those who post rubbish, just to get the seo juice.
Yes, it is too bad that changed to no follow earlier in the year. I think I realized this around Apr/May or so. Nonetheless, first the No follow applies to google..I believe yahoo and bing and others do not pay attn to no follow. Second, as you mentioned, there is still some traffic and yes, some of the pinterest items do come up in searches.
I'm using as a visual tool to help me w/ my customers - to help them visualize and show them items that I may not have with me in my car.
Melissa- well, duh, I did not know this. Great to know though but I kind of like knowing that because now I can focus on making it informative and fun without having to have everything be about SEO. Great post, Melissa!
I must admit, I don't currently take advantage of Pinterest! Seems like I'm missing a great opportunity.
Many thanks for the heads-up!
Melissa-I like pininterest for all the pretty pics and recipes and variety of different things you can see.
Melissa: I'm thinking that YOU were my find of the week .. no the month! I've already learned so much from you. Here on AR. But on Google+ too. Thank you for appearing ... I'm looking forward to learning even more in the future ...
Gene
Thanks for sharing - no-follows can have value but when it comes to where you spend limited time it is a factor. Regards Dave
Sally - I agree. I'm sure that Pinterest put this is place for good reason. We are still pulling page views from it, so there is still a lot of value in it.
Debbie - eye candy. We all love it!
Kathy - I'm glad I'm not the only one who missed the memo! Thank for the feature too!
Tom - be careful, it can be a time sucker!
Sharon - have you made many of the recipes? I recently made the pumpkin dump cake and bacon wrapped chicken... both were delicious!
Gene - That is one of the nicest things I've heard in a while. Thank you so much!
David - I agree. You have to be careful that you don't allow it to become a time vacuum!
Haven't tried any of them but have bookmarked the page to come back to it. Right now I am busy planting 350 tulips bulbs and 100 daffodils olus other varieties. Right now I scan the pages while I am eating my meals sitting at the computer and then plan on going back. I am not a big fan of pumpkin but the chicken wrapped in bacon sounds delicious
