Hello everyone-When I lived in NY I had a small 2 bedroom home under 1000 sq ft. One year I decided to start some flowers as well as vegetables from seed.  I don't seem to be able to plant on a small scale. I had the house filled with seeds of many varieties. The only place that didn't have plants was my bedroom, bathroom and laundry room. Everywhere else I had space I had flowers. It was a project and a learning experience. Some plants are harder to grow from seed and they require a lot of tending to especially when young and tender.

Fast forward to next year actually in a few months for the south. I will again be starting flowers from seed. I have many different kinds. Years ago when I did this. I bought all my seeds from the local Walmart. This time I ordered many of my seeds online and have found lots of flowers I had never seen before and a couple that I knew of but they were different.  Now Mom would frown on me filling her house with flats with potting mix and seeds so my woman cave will be where I start mine come early 2013.

Here are some that I have heard of but they are totally different from the ordinary ones I am used to.

Cosmo-Rose Bon Bon-unique one                  The regular Cosmos

These are ones I have never heard of before and I thought were quite unique and beautiful

maltese cross       Double Datura Black Currant Swirl

                        Aquilegia-Dark Blue                                      Tropical Canna

                   Aquilegia      Canna

Hope you have enjoyed this little variety of unique and beautiful flowers.

I will leave you with one of my favorite that I am anxious to see if they will produce as they were $9.95 for 5 seeds. It is a climbing vine

I will certainly be looking forward the photos from your flower garden this year.  I don't seem to have time to do much at home, but I try to keep the office looking nice with flower and veggies.

I'm fascinated by that Corkscrew vine ! I assume it is a perennial? Do you think it would grow this far north? I can't wai to see your photos showing your success next year? In the meantime, take a pic of your green thumb :)

Susan-I was as well. I remember seeing it years ago in a catalog and had ordered one bareroot but it never did anything. This is my first time with seeds. In warmer climates it is a perennial and cooler climates like yours it would be an annual.

This is the info from the place I ordered it which is Summer Hill Seeds. An absolutely gorgeous, exotic looking vine, Vigna Caracalla has breathtakingly beautiful fragrant flowers in shades of purple, cream and yellow. Blooms grow in 12 inch long coiled clusters on 20 foot vines from mid-summer thru fall. This is a vine that is easy to germinate and grow and provides beauty and fragrance for years to come. A perennial in warmer climates, and an annual elsewhere, Corkscrew Vine can be dug and wintered over for a bigger, stronger vine the following year. Plant near a patio or window where the fragrance can be enjoyed and the blooms admired. A rare and hard to find vine, this is the one that every garden needs.

You are welcome my friend. I smiled when I saw how close. I was out planting tulips and peonies in Lindsey's memorial garden today. Other than replacing the white stone and respraying the frame I am almost done with her garden. Got 4 baskets and two hanging baskets with solar lights to finish it. Can't wait til everything is in bloom. I am loving the gardening but not my body. Smiling.

Hi Sharon,

I have tried to grow plants from seeds but they never survive. I keep trying to grow nasturchans and after 6 months I have one little vine growing in a pot. I had cosmos but the darn snails ate them. I do better with plants already growing from the nursery. I love all your flower pictures and good luck with your bulbs especially that blue one.

Rebecca-I don't know about a green thumb I just enjoy it and the corkscrew vine is pretty and unique.

Kristin-They do require extra attention. Sure makes you appreciate the commercial growers when you attempt them from seed. I hope to do well starting them from seed.
