Make Your Shreveport-Bossier Home Sell Faster: Part 1

By

There always seems to be that one home in the neighborhood that stays on the market forever. The for sale sign becomes a fixture in the yard, almost like a reminder that the endeavor to sell the home has been a failure thus far. Why do some homes sell lightning fast while others take seemingly forever to nab a buyer? Although it could very well be that the price of the home and the actual home value don't match up, it could also be a number of factors contributing to the non-sale.

But there are some practical steps that homeowners can take to help the process along, and Holloway Home Group would like to give some tips on how to make your home sell faster. This will be a series of blog posts, the first installment being about what you can do throughout the house in general.

Ok, so we know everyone is not a neat freak like some seem predisposed to be; however, if you are trying to sell your home as quickly as possible, you may need to practice your cleaning and organizational skills. People are going to be coming to your home to look at it, and how you keep house can inhibit or help the sale. Although this is by no means exhaustive, here are some tips for you sellers out there:
  1. You are not a vampire, to the chagrin of you Twilight fans who secretly have that wish...open the drapes, pull up the shades, and let some light in! It will make the inside of your home look more open and inviting.
  2. De-clutter. No one will be able to clearly see what the house looks like inside or envision themselves and their stuff in there if all they can see is your junk...er...stuff.
  3. Keep your house dusted and vacuumed at all times. Now, this does not mean that you should kill yourself making sure every spot is spic-and-span 24/7, but be aware of the way everything looks. Whip out the vacuum and duster at least twice a week if possible.
  4. Deodorize! Air out your home about 30 minutes before a showing if you are able; also, lightly (we don't want the potential buyers to suffocate...please) spray air freshener throughout the home, and get rid of all smoke and pet odors. Fido is cute, but his smell won't appeal to buyers.
  5. Tap into your inner painter and get out the paintbrush if your walls are brightly or strangely colored. You may be a neon green person, but that doesn't mean that potential buyers will be. Neutral colors are best for walls and will help your home sell faster than colored walls will.
Now, there are plenty more tips where those came from. And fortunately, we aren't going to cover them all right now.
But these steps to sell your hope were some of the major points you need to have to help draw buyers in. More to come soon!
