Staging an Edmonds View Home: Decorating Tips

By
Home Stager with Staging Seattle, King & Snohomish Counties

What a beautiful day we had to stage this view home in Edmonds last week!

As I looked at the photos from this staging job, I was struck with how many decorating tips this job offered and I wanted to share some of them with you.

Living Room:  The view is fabulous from this room, but that doesn't mean we can ignore the decor in this cozy room.  Adding an area rug to the all white walls and carpet adds warmth and creates a jumping off point for the rest of the color scheme throught the space.  Go ahead and add a colorful rug on top of a neutral colored carpet, especially if the walls are a neutral color as well.

Master Bedroom:  Adding cream, lime green and brown to the master bedroom toned down the "sweetness" factor of the pink accent wall.  In the photo the wall looks almost red, but in person the wall is a deep pink color.  If you have the space, a leather storage ottoman at the foot of the bed is always a nice addition and gives you a place to sit while you put your socks on in the morning.

Master bathroom:  The custom etched window above the tub is really a focal point in this room, so we kept the artwork in this bathroom simple.  The iron work on each side of the window create balance and add additional visual interest without competing with the beautiful window.  One dramatic arrangement on the large vanity add to the drama and keep the color pallette consistently neutral, yet add some texture and keep the visual interest going throughout the room.

Kitchen:  With a wood floor and similarly colored wood cabinets, we added some barstools in black and kept the accessories to a minimum to keep the main focus on that fabulous view!

Guest Bedroom:  When hanging artwork in a sunny space that will get some glare, try using a canvas piece or artwork with non-glare glass.  By using some neutral color bedding and patterned accent pillows, the green walls are not overwhelming.  When working with a strong wall color or carpet color, it is best use neutrals and add just a bit of pattern and texture, not trying to "match" the dominate color with other items in the room, but select colors that will harmonize with it.

Powder Room:  Another bold wall color!  We added artwork in this petite room with thick white mats so that this wall color did not become overwhelming in this small space.  Don't be afraid to use larger pieces of art in small spaces.  The effect can be dramatic and beautiful!

The View:  At the end of the day, it's all about the view!

Diana, beautiful job on the staging!  I appreciate your helpful ideas with the bold colored walls.  Those can really be a challenge in staging, but you showed helpful ways to tone things down.  Thanks!
