Is it a thistle?  I do think it's pretty too as long as it's not in my garden.

Hi Cindy - yes, it is a thistle. I've been noticing its bloom every time I walk my dog down our driveway (quarter mile long driveway) - it's in the "wild" area that we don't landscape, and I agree it wouldn't be so pretty to see it my garden!

Nancy, it doesn't look like a week to me.  The thistles are such a pretty color.

Hi Nancy,

I looks like a very unusual plant but I did not know it was a weed. I get this tiny ground covering with yellow flowers on it and it is a weed but it is pretty so I let it grow unless it gets too big but it still come back. Yep, it is a WEED.

I agree, even though its  a weed it does have such a pretty color and makes for an interesting picture.

I think that's what I love too Patricia - such a lovely purple!! (or pinkish purple)

Kristin - I agree that if something is pretty, I'm OK with it sticking around - until it starts taking over the world!

Thank you Michele - I walked by it admiring it for several days before I realized I should take a picture!

LOL Marney!  It does sometimes seem like our notions of what is a flower and what is a weed is kind of arbitrary - and not necessarily linked to whether it is great to look at!  My little granddaughter is quite a fan of dandelions - LOL

I think it is pretty too, Nancy!  A weed is merely a flower that is a nuisance that is growing where it isn't supposed to.  The same thing happens when you try to label a varmint, when it may only be a critter:-)

Good points Myrl - and I SO enjoy some of the wild critters in our yard.....except when I catch them munching my veggie garden!  LOL  Then they are those darn varmints for sure....
