I had some nice rest this President's Day weekend and got to watch a good share of movies.  The latest one was "We Own the Night" with Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg, and Robert Duvall.  I believe it was supposed to be set some time in the late 80's (best guess) in Brooklyn.  The premise is Robert Duvall, who plays the chief of police, has two sons.  One is moving up in the ranks of the department (Wahlberg) and one is the right hand man of a popular night club owner that is ripe with shady dealings.  I can't really say much more without giving away part of the story but the russian mafia and drugs are involved so it is definitely full of action.  I thought that it was really well done and had some good twists to keep the viewer engaged.  Probably not for the younger audience, there is a lot of drug use, violence, language and sex sexual content.  Happy viewing!

Haven't seen that one yet, but I did sit and watch "The Great Raid".  It was a great movie if you have the chance to see it.  It's about a rescue mission of more than 500 POW's in the Philipines while it was occupied by the Japanese.  They were in the camp for more than 3 years.  Not as gory as Saving Private Ryan, but not for weak stomachs either.

Watched it this past weekend, and I must say agreat movie indeed. Phoenix was brilliant, and Duvall as well. I like Mark Walberg he brings a certain depth to all the roles he plays. A must see in my books.

Sounds good, I'll check it out.  Thanks for the violence warning - I can't watch anything around my daughter.  She got upset in Meet the Parents when the girl got hit in the nose w/ a volleyball.  I had remembered to tell her in advance that NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO THE CAT, but forgot about that one.  ALL my movie viewing is after bedtime.
