The art of addressing "removing the shoes"

I know I have read a blog or post on this before...went to search and can't find it. I recently did a consult for a lovely family who own a very nice home. They asked me to remove my shoes when I can into the home...no biggie to me...just glad my socks matched. It's obvious that this is more of an issue than getting dirt on the floor to these people, it is part of their custom, lives and just the way they do things. My only concern is that we have several "red-necks" in Arkansas who may be wiered out by this and people who just simply do not want to remove their shoes. It's uncomfortable to some. I have heard of the "booties" method, any other suggestions on how to appease both parties?

You can try anything you want, you simply can't please everyone.

My cousin hates not wearing shoes even in her own home, so to go somehwere else where they would ask her to takes hers off, there is no "appeasing", she just would't go in. I suggest the bootie method to have handy though.

The booties or floor runners.  There is some type of plastic film that sticks to the carpet that is nice.  I have seen it used in commercial buildings but not sure what it is called.  I am one of those people who hate to remove my shoes unless it is rainy or muddy or some reason.  I think it is so unwelcoming but when visiting you have to do what the homeowner wants.

It think booties are just fine to use. I think it sends a message to the future homebuyer as well --- we care about the upkeep of this home...
