If you're a visitor to the area, there are some specialties you might just miss unless someone tells you about them. Here are a few tips:
1) BEST APPLE CIDER. Many places claim to have the good stuff, but I have yet to taste anything as good as Jenkins and Leukens product. It is the pure, unpasturized squeezings that is sold in various sizes from single serving to gallon. To get there, just head west from New Paltz on Route 299 and look for the white barn on the left hand (south) side with their sign on it. It is about 4 miles from the village.
2) BEST EGGS. This clear category winner goes to Liberty View Farm on Crescent avenue in Clintondale. You can go see the beautiful heritage breed chickens in the rear and play with their friendly goats as well. These organic eggs come in a mix of white, brown & green colors depending on the breed. go to their website at www.libertyviewfarm.biz and say hi to Billiam. PS- You can also buy the farm's eggs at the Health and Nutrition store at New Paltz Plaza, but it's just not the same. 3) BEST RESTAURANT. Main Course in New Paltz Rite Aid plaza. You know the old adage that the best restaurant is often a hole in the wall in an out of the way area. Well, this is a bit above that, but not much. The food is terrific and the prices are fair. They also have a gourmet meal take out for just $8 which includes your choice of main course and two sides. There are two Rite Aid stores in New Paltz. Look for the one closer to the village and the Main Course is all the way on the right hand side. Enjoy!
