Mayor launches Saturday morning walks
Continuing her Saturday morning tradition of meeting with residents in a wide-open format, Laguna Hills Mayor Barbara Kogerman is launching a “Walk with the Mayor” program meeting every Saturday. Walkers should gather at 9 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 28, in front of the Community Center at Alicia and Paseo de Valencia in Laguna Hills.
Kogerman’s Saturday morning walks also promote the City’s Get Fit Campaign, introduced in 2005 to target rising obesity rates.
“We continue to be dedicated to the health and wellness of our residents. Each week we’ll visit a different trail. Participants will visit parts of the City they may not have expeienced, while getting fit and having a captive audience with the Mayor,” Kogerman says.
“Our first walk will be the 2.7-mile Alicia Loop,” Kogerman says. “We’ll probably complete the entire loop at a fairly leisurely pace, and we should have everyone back at the Community Center by 11. From the Community Center we’ll take the Alicia Trail past Moulton, then head north on the Aliso Creek Trail, east along Laguna Hills Drive, then south on the Alicia Trail along Valencia back to the Community Center.”
“Participants should bring water and wear comfortable shoes and plenty of sunscreen. Bring a smart phone to track your progress on our trail system. Everyone is welcome to bring their dogs on a leash (along with doggie bags). We’ll also pick up any trash we find along the way.
“Fresh air and exercise, pleasant scenery, good conversation, and sprucing up our trails – what better way to spend a Saturday morning?” Kogerman asks.
Those who want to learn more about the City’s trails can download the City’s new interactive app via their smart phone’s app store by typing Laguna Hills in the search bar to install the app. Go to “Places,” then tap on “Trails” to find a map and directions. Or visit the City’s web site at www.ci.laguna-hills.ca.us. Go to “Departments,” tap on ”Community Parks,” and use the interactive map (not available on iPads).
The City’s calendar of events will keep residents apprised of each week’s walk site.
