Coffee Dude Goes Undercover... Boss Style!

Move over Starbucks... a new coffee squeeze is making its debut on the big screen tonight and it's totally an undercover operation! Southern Oregon's own coffee mogul, Travis Boersma of Dutch Bros Coffee, is about to kick some liquid ask tonight on 'Undercover Boss.'

Travis, along with his brother Dane, founded the Dutch Bros Coffee Company in Grants Pass, Oregon in 1992, by selling coffee from a cart in a parking lot in the sleepy little river town. Twenty one years later, Dutch Bros Coffee has expanded to 202 locations with 2,000 employees in seven states, making it the largest privately held drive-thru coffee chain with annual revenues more than $100 million. Now, that's a wow!

The Dutch Bros success story is one of triumph and tragedy. Just as the business was going viral and franchises were taking off, brother Dane was stricken with ALS and died from the disease in 2009, leaving brother Travis to run the family business. As a tribute to his Bro, Travis has continued to fuel America's caffeine habit by creating a laid-back corporate culture of peace signs and crazy stickers for cult-like customers to enjoy. The coffee tastes great too!

Dutch Love Parties are sprouting up all over Southern Oregon this evening to show support for our beloved coffee company and its proud President, Travis Boersma. Guaranteed, you'll love this guy, and their story. Undercover Boss airs tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m.

Mel, Perfect timing. It's nearly 7pm and I've been at it since 6am this morning. I'm ready to get cozy on my couch and watch Undercover Boss, Shark Tank and then connect my head to my pillow for some serious zzzzz's. Having read your post watching Undercover Boss tonight will have more meaning.

Mel, I just read your comment on my post. The fact that Travis is not that way in real life reflects another aspect of first impressions. I have no doubt he is a stand up guy as was his brother. I am sure he was nervous being on TV as I know I would be. We say and do things when we are nervous that do not reflect our natural self. It was a great Undercover Boss episode. I love what he did for all of the people.

Hey Mel, I happened to watch that program about Dutch Bros Coffee. I like the way they relate to their customers and their employees. I missed the part about them starting out in Grants Pass.

Thanks Kathleen. Travis has a surfer dude mentality which is very conducive to Southern Oregonians (even though the waves are more than 80 miles away ;-) This week... Dutch Bros offered a two for one special on everything including gift cards. I was thrilled and bought 100 gift cards for my clients and Dutch Bros doubled it to 200 at no additional cost. That's a Wow!

We call it Dutch Love in these parts... Rene! Their coffee is pretty darn good too ;-)

They're BIG stuff in our neck of the woods... Nick! They're corporate culture is very laid back and their customer service rocks!
