Price of Stamps to Increase January 2014 - Stock up on Forever Stamps!

You might want to stock up on "Forever" stamps again as postage rates are ging up later this month.

The 2014 postage increase will take effect on January 26, 2014 and will raise the cost of stamps as follows:

US Stamp by Gualberto 107 freedigitalphotos.netLetter Postage will be 49 cents for a 1 ounce letter. Any additional ounce will be an additional 21 cents.

Postcards:  Sending a postcard will be 34 cents.

International Mail:  A letter sent overseas will be $1.15 for one ounce.

Buying "Forever" stamps before the new postal rates take effect lets you buy stamps at the current rate and you can use them "forever" regardless of what the actual price of postage will be in the future.

Since first class letter postage will go up by 3 cents, you will save $3.00 when you buy a roll of "Forever" stamps.

Silvia - yep, I certainly saw this coming and I don't know why they don't just go to 50 cents. This is a good reminder and a good blog to attach to all of your emails. Clear, concise and information that everybody can use. Good job, yet again posting something so simple but valuable!

Good morning Silvia. If we ran our business the way the post office does, how long would it be, that we were out of business?

Make it a great week!

Susan, thank you, seems these increases have become an annual event.

Debbie, I stocked up before the end of the year for future mailings.

Richard, great slogan!  Happy new year to you as well.

Joe, people write fewer letters, less revenue, rates go up, people write fewer letters, less revenue.... It's a spiral without end.

Conrad, sooner or later it'll get there.

forever stamps are one of those curious inflation hedges, brought on by the persistent inflation.  the dollar keeps losing purchasing power, as a result of the constant expansion of debt and money printing.

I already got my stamps too.  These almost yearly increases are getting out of hand...I remember when you could mail 5 letters for this price.

Good alert, Silvia.  I bought a few rolls yesterday.  I probably should have bought more.  It's about a 4.5% return on the investment, and that's pretty good these days.

Sharon, good for you, ready or not, it'll be here.

Mary Ann, you are welcome.

Eric, it sure is.  I guess you have to think about whether it makes more sense spending money now or later.

Debra, I remember letter postage somewhere around 25 cents, I guess that was in the 80's?

Gabe, looking at it this way, it definitely is a lot more than what money "earns" in your bank account.
