The Great Race Will Come Upon Agoura Hills CA

Everyone that lives in and around Agoura Hills CA knows about the Great Race. This year will mark the 29th year of this incredible education fund raiser. During the month before the race, the air is buzzing, the students in the local schools are ready to work the event, and the banners are on the street posts. The Great Race will come upon Agoura Hills CA on Saturday March 22, 2014 this year and everyone is talking.

History of the Event:  The Great Race was originally started back in 1986 by a group of parents that were looking for a way to raise additional funds for the local schools as the State budget for education was being cut and slashed. They all did a fantastic job and worked endlessly to make it happen every year. However, the strain of the event, getting sponsors and the like was too difficult to continue. Then a local Fox Sport executive, and a runner himself, took over the event in 2001 and at his first event he raised $28,000 for 5 local schools around Agoura Hills. With its success in the future events that number rose to a record fund raising year in 2009 of $114,000 and spread across 9 local schools.  Over the long history of the event, over $1,600,000 has been raised for our local schools to fund the shortfall of the State education budget.

Event Information:  There are various races as part of the event from the Chesebro Half Marathon, the 5k, the 10k and the kids 1 mile run. The City of Agoura Hills also provides various FREE shuttle locations.  Find the start times and locations.

Following the event at the finish line in Chumash Park in Agoura Hills is where the party starts with many informational, vendor and food booths.
