Laguna Hills Real Estate

The city of Laguna Hills is one of the older cities in South Orange County.  Unlike Aliso Viejo or Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills offers an older, more established feel to the residents along with homes on spacious lots.  It’s proximity to the freeway and to Irvine, make it appealing for those who work in North Orange County as well as for those who want to be a little farther away from the hustle and bustle of Orange County proper.  Laguna Hills real estate is great to consider for your next home purchase.

Laguna Hills is built on one of the major land grants developed during the Rancho Era. Following Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821, those who had served in the government or who had friends in authority, were given vast lands for cattle grazing. Rancho Lomas de Santiago, Rancho San Joaquin, and Rancho Niguel covered much of the western portion of the Saddleback Valley. Don Juan Avila was granted the 13,000 Rancho Niguel on which Laguna Hills is located.

In 1874, Lewis Moulton purchased Rancho Niguel from Don Juan Avila and increased the original grant to 22,000 acres. Moulton and his partner, Jean Piedra Daguerre, used the ranch to raise sheep and cattle. The Moulton Ranch was eventually subdivided in the early 1960′s, part of which is recognized as Laguna Hills.

Incorporation efforts began in 1987 and on March 5, 1991, the goal of incorporation was finally achieved with 86% of the residents voting in favor of forming the City of Laguna Hills. On December 20, 1991, Laguna Hills officially became a City.

Laguna Hills is a special place and if you ever hear of people talking about any one area, it would have to be Nellie Gail Ranch. Nellie Gail is perhaps most famed for its world-class equestrian environment, with many homes providing private horse facilities and direct access to the Ranch’s 20 miles of riding trails and abundant acres of open space.  The enviable enclave’s other amenities include the Nellie Gail Ranch Sports Club, encompassing a Tennis Center with 12 lighted tennis courts as well as a Club House with pro shop, lounge and locker rooms.  In addition, the Equestrian Center comprises three arenas and offers the region’s foremost training, while the Swim Center includes a Junior Olympic pool with recreational and swim team training.

What people really love about this neighborhood and area is the spacious lots, larger homes and the fact that it’s not cookie cutter.  Laguna Hills real estate is sought after by people moving up, equestrian lovers, and for the affordability factor over other area in Orange County.  Prices start around $210K for a condo and currently the highest priced home iNellie Gail Ranchn Laguna Hills just happens to be in Nellie Gail Ranch for a mere $9,300,000 for a 6 bedroom/9 bath home with 8000square feet.  Simply gorgeous.
