Fireworks on the 4th of July in Washington DC

There is no place in the world like Washington DC for the 4th of July!

Yes, I am partial to this town. I was born in Washington DC and love to show out of town visitors the historic sites. Washington DC is the most exciting town in the country for the 4th of July Fireworks!

For the classic Washington DC 4th of July experience, you'll want to see the  National Independence Day Parade which kicks off 11:45 am at Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets.

Hundreds of thousands of people watch the Parade with marching bands from all 50 States

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is happening now thru the 4th on the National Mall and this year it features China and Kenya. There is dancing, food and artwork from the countries and covers the open area between the Capital and the Washington monument.

On the U.S. Capitol West Lawn at 3 p.m. the gates open for A Capitol 4th  a musical celebration featuring the National Symphony Orchestra. Every year celebrities perform and this year features

Patti LaBelle, Franki Valli, Phillip Phillips, Michael McDonald, Jordin Sparks and the Muppets!

The concert is broadcast live and ends with the most amazing Fireworks Show in the United States

Are you coming to Washington DC for the 4th? Here are a few tips to keep in mind that will keep your excursion fun!

1. Bring water! Washington DC is hot and the forecast is for highs near 87 degrees. There is an excellent chance for high humidity so bring bottled water and a small backpack.

2. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. The U.S. Capitol is 1.2 miles from the Washington Monument. I've seen many worn out tourist making this trek with kids in tow. Fortunately, the museums are free to enter and you can duck in and cool off.

3. Bring something to sit on for the concert.  It's nice to relax on something other than itchy grass for the concert.

and remember, the locals are very friendly and willing to offer advice and directions!

Wherever you are, enjoy this wonderful American Holiday!

I love Washington DC too, and lived there almost 2 years after high school.    Hope you enjoy the 4th, and Arthur does not impact your Holiday.
