Zillow to acquire Trulia, consolidation Good or Bad for the industry?

News flash just now on CNN.com that Zillow is acquiring Trulia for 3.5 Billion dollars. Do you think this consolidation is good or bad for the real estate industry, will it stay business as usual or change dramatically? What do think about it? Zillow is saying that both brands will remain intact for now. I wonder if there are any other suitors out there? Seems like a rich price for it.

Totally bad and it could backfire once Realtors® understand that it means further loss of control of their listings through syndication and ad sales to competing agents. I believe more agents will choose to cease syndication as offered through their respective MLS systems. What is the value to Zillow then? Zilch

Well I guess Trulia was smart to gooble up everything it did... AR, market leaders, poslets ect.... because it made a package that looked attractive to zillow.  Oddly enough in my area Trulia never seemed to have an impact and consumers never used or mentioned it.  I just hope I can keep the price I have now with the services I have with both of them.  We'll see.

Norman, I feel that way,too.

Tammy, I hope you can, but they seem to jack prices up at will.

I think it is never good for one company to have a vritual monopoly in our free enterprise system, because the result can be really poor customer service.

All we have to do is look at every other industry where a few companies monoplize the market... When was the last time anyone said they liked Comcast?
