While on a complete exterior repaint in Rockledge, Fl. I was painting the lanai ceiling when the knockdown texture on the pool patio ceiling started to come off onto my roller while rolling the first coat of paint on this ceiling.
In this video clip I'm using my knockdown texture repair sponge to apply joint compound to the areas where the knockdown texture and paint had failed instead of breaking out my large texture rig to match the heavy knockdown texture.
This technique can actually blend the texture on a ceiling or wall repair better when it's this size knockdown texture and is also perfect for the DIY'er or contractor to save time and money.
After scraping the problem areas of the ceiling I'll be:
1) Spot priming these areas with a spray can of Kilz primer
2) Then I skim coated the areas with 20 minute hot mud
3) Next I wet sanded the edges to blend into the existing texture
4) With my knockdown texture sponge and some all purpose joint compound I will apply a simulated knock down texture feathering to match the existing ceiling texture.
5) Spot prime
6) Spot paint areas
7) Repaint the entire lanai ceiling
