Selling Your Home During The Holidays...

Many sellers are wondering if it's wise or worth it to keep their home on the market over the holidays. Here are some tips you may want to consider before you withdraw your home from the market:

1. While showing your home over the holidays can be a considerable hassle, especially if your home is the annual holiday hub for your family and friends, it is still very much worth it because the buyers during this time of the year are usually very serious. Many of them need to get into their new diggs right now and they are ready to buy.

2.  The competition from other home sellers is much less during the holidays because most will want to wait til Spring since it is traditionally the busiest time of the year if it comes to real estate transactions. While that is true, it is also true that you'll have to compete with many more for sale properties like yours during the Spring months.

3. If you decide to put your home up for sale during the holiday season, or keep it listed if you are already on the market, you may want to consider keeping your holiday decorations in check. Less of it is usually more if it comes to highlighting and marketing your home. You do not want to distract buyers eyes from the features of your home by cluttering it up with to much holiday cheer.

4.  That said, tasteful and startegically placed holiday decorations do signal that you take good care of your home and with pride. And the sight of a well placed and sized Christmas tree and the smell of fresh pine needles gives most people a good vibe. However, avoid overly religious flourishes, which may be off-putting to some buyers..

5.  While seasonal exterior and interior decorations can very much dress up a plain or tired looking home it is not wise to hide serious defects behind them since they will come to light during the home inspection anyhow.

6. When decorating your home avoid creating tripping hazards inside and out. The last thing you need is a lawsuit while trying to sell your home. So make sure you tuck those pumkins securely into a corner of your entrance stairs.

7. Don't hide your homes best features and assets under excessive holiday decorations. If there is to much exterior decor it may be impossible for buyers to see the curb appeal of your home. The same goes for interior decorations. Don't hide your beautiful fireplace mantel under to much of it.

In the end, I wish you all a great Holiday Season... and a fast and enjoyable sale of your homes.
