Are you an order taker or a rainmaker?

Most of us, myself included, have very strong feelings about Z, T and R.  Pros of receiving leads from a heavily used site, to a home for your reviews to return on investment.  The cons of having to pay for your own leads, to supporting the SEO of 3rd party sites to helping the real estate industry go the way of movie rental stores and travel agents.  Ever hear of Expedia?  The same guy that owns Z owns Expedia, sits on the board of Netflix, and is known for disrupting industries.  I am sure there are more reasons.  But it boils down to this for me:

Are you in business to be an order taker, or are you a rainmaker?  Seriously?  Do you prefer to be at the mercy of the big boys, bowing to whatever demands they make?  Or do you prefer to create your own business, prospecting for leads, creating a killer website that actually produces leads?  Perhaps its easier to think of it as being "employed" vs. "self-employed."  The choice is yours.  Participate in the fall of our industry, or fight back with your knowledge, skill and all around rainmaker skills.

WE need ot distance ourselves from the 3rd party sites...When we deal with them we make them more money and cheat ourselves.

There will always be a need for good Real Estate Agents Catherine, and z and t selling leads to the desperate agents will not likely change anything.

Good morning, Catherine!

We are in the business for ourselves, therefore, we need to generate our own leads.  When I first started in the business, I subscribed to the lead generation companies.  What a waste.  I did get one that turned into a forever client, but all the rest were either bogus or were also sent to other agents.  I learned my lesson.

I had signed up with one once but it never panned out to be the rosy picture they paint. I know many more people that have tried it and left than those who continue with it. I believe it's got to collapse before long.

Build your blog, video channel, your website niche platforms for greater market share, with healthy frequency by hunt and pecking daily. Your SEO is the local expert, not buying back position with your own listings. That is backwards.

Could not agree more William Feela .  If you look at who owns Zillow, and what he has done to other industries, you would be a fool not to distance your self.

I agree Bob Crane , but the track record of who owns Z concerns me.

Hi Brigita McKelvie !  Good to hear from you!  Yes, we are in business for ourselves, not those 3rd party advertising sites.

Let's hope so Bob "RealMan" Timm !

It could come to that if the owners of Z have their way Endre Barath, Jr.

Spot on Andrew!

Catherine Ulrey, I like your take.......Paying for leads does not make sense to me, unless it is a referral.  I love referrals.
