Not One More, But Two

Tortoise and the HareOne through ten (1 - 10), the minimum to the maximum. A snails pace to a cheetah sprint. The numeric designation of the least to the most. 1 - 10 unquestionably has to be the most common marking on any number of appliances, gadgets and just about anything with a knob or slider control that goes from low to high. And because gadgets and what not are made by companies who's purpose is to sell them to consumer's, those knobs, sliders and controls sometimes may contain an element of hyperbole.

This one goes to 12My mind couldn't help but wander in this direction during a home inspection when I saw one of the burner controls for the range. Three of the controls were marked low and high. Simple, nothing out of the ordinary.

And then I saw the rear left control. Apparently a turbo boosted burner for the extraordinary cook. This knob wasn't simply low to high, nor was it merely 1 - 10. No sir, this knob went from 1 - 12! Not one more than 10, but two. All I can say is, WOW!

Being that this knob went to 12, it reminder me of the conversation in the pseudo documentary This is Spinal Tap where Nigel Tufnel explains how his bands amplifiers go to 11.

As I was reading this post and before I even got to the mention of Spinal Tap I instantly thought of that scene in the movie as well.

LOL... good one! Your analogy reminded me of the movie Mr Mom where Michael Keaton is asked if the re-wiring he is doing is 220, he says "220, 221, whatever it takes"

My first big boy music receiver, an Ampex, shown here without the high-quality, wood-grain, metal cover, volume went to 10.  My mother warned me never to turn it up to that!

And who wouldn't want that turbo boost for cooking?  Imagine, fried eggs in 7 seconds, a big, juicy hamburger in 22, and a steak in 46 (23 seconds on each side, for a perfect medium well).

Spinal Tap rocks, by the way.  Pun intended, but true.  "Rock N Rooolll!"

Don, For that extra push over the cliff.

Nicole, Its a classic that has stuck with me, as you can tell :)

Ed, You might want to let her now....or not.

Fred, I don't remember that. I'll have to look it up and watch.

Jay, Ampex? Never heard of. Looks like it'll crank out the R & R. But not to 11.

That was the biggest line from "Spinal Tap."

Rock n' rooolll!

Ampex was big back then.  Everyone in my dorm had one.  I felt really cool.
