Snook season opens today in Gulf of Mexico waters off Florida! That is great news for local fishermen!
Snook season will remain open from March 1 through April 30 and then will close once again. Remember that any snook you catch must be at least 28 inches long and not longer than 33 inches in order to keep it legally.
During the cold winter months, snook go up into our rivers and creeks to keep warm but once the Gulf of Mexico warms up and our intercoastal waters are warmer, snook start venturing back out of the rivers and creeks. They like it under bridges and out near our mangrove islands in the intercoastal waterway. So my advice to all local fishermen is to get out there and enjoy fishing for snook now that the season is open again in the gulf waters!
