Delightfully bossy visitors at San Juan Capistrano

Open House

I hosted open house Sunday at my nice listing at 31881 Paseo Cielo in San Juan Capistrano. This is the property affectionately known as the big, yellow house.

There was a steady stream of visitors including a repeat visit by a mother and daughter.  They noticed I'd left my car hazard lights on.  I'd turned the hazard lights on when I placed the open house signs and forgot to turn them off.

The mother and daughter insisted I try to start my car to make sure the battery wasn't dead. I said I'd be fine and if I needed a jump I'd call my husband or Auto Club. The mother and daughter were adamant that I try to start my car with them there.  I did.  The battery was dead.

Mother and daughter continued to be delightfully bossy.  They said they were going to pick up my open house signs while I called to get someone to give my battery a jump.  The daughter said she's 62 and I think Mom said she's in her mid 80's and they were insisting on picking my signs up for me!

We negotiated and agreed that I'd remove the signs from the front yard and wait inside the locked house until help arrived.

The daughter is a retired lawyer and doesn't exactly come across as sunshine and butterflies. I suspect she was a bad ass in court. On this day, I saw a different side of the daughter, which was very nice!  The mom comes across as super smart with a side of goofy silliness.

Mom and daughter insisted on keeping me safe and that was really nice.

That is a very nice story and it is always nice to know that people care about others, even if they don't know them well.

Where the swallows live? It is nice to sell homes in a hisotrical town.

I think the two were overhelpful ladies. At open house the realtor asked me to take down signs for 1/2 mile on the way out. I had no issues to help her.

I truly believe there are a lot of wonderful people out there - I would even say the majority of people are wonderful!  If you are one, they will be attracted to you like a magnate.

I like to think that most people have a very sweet side to them if given the opportunity to show it. If I had been there, I would have insisted you check the battery as well. And I'm older than the daughter / lawyer.

I have a battery boost start I keep in my trunk.  My husband takes it inside and charges it about every 4 weeks in winter and about every 6 weeks the rest of the year for cases like that.  I've left an interior light on several times.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - The Mom showed her sweet side immediately.  There was nothing that would have made me think the daughter had a sweet side until I saw it.  What a delight!

Nice to know you have that same instinct to help people.

Richie Alan Naggar author PEARLS FOR THE SOUL.com Books on -  "Sunshine and butterflies" is a phrase I've shamelessly stolen from my Mother.  She always had a smile on her face and in her voice.

If she didn't like you, you'd never know.  I could tell and my Dad could tell, but hardly anyone else could.  Easy to tell with me.  I have no filter and if I don't say it, you see it in my face.

Rob Thomas -  It's totally amazing what you see and who you meet at open house.  It's always a mixed bag!
