May 14 was RED Day for Keller Williams Realty – a day to Renew Energize and Donate. All across the nation, Keller Williams offices were closed so brokers could participate in activities to the local communities where they live..
This year my office in Kirkland, Washington, decided to support Eastside Baby Corner by collecting items for babies – food, diapers, clothing, blankets and toys. I live in Duvall, Washington, so I decided to collect items in my home town. Family Grocer in downtown Duvall graciously allowed me to set up a table in front of their store. During a two and half hour period, customers gladly gave food, diapers and cash.
Each giver was precious; however, a few stand out. There was the mother with her daughter – the daughter shyly placed a jar a baby food in the box while the mother said “I wish we could give more.” I let her know that EVERY donation was truly appreciated and thanked her for giving.
There was the older gentleman who was not wearing the trappings of wealth – he reached in to his pocket, pulled out a few coins and placed them in the jar. I know his gift was from the heart – it was very much appreciated.
There was also the gentleman who wanted a waiver from giving because he was going to be a new grandfather in August. On his way out of the store he came over and put some money in the jar saying “the store didn’t have what I wanted – here you go” with a sheepish grin on his face.
There were others that gave – friends, workers who I know from local businesses, and strangers. One woman said that she worked with an organization who received helped from Eastside Baby Corner – “the organization would not have survived” without help from the Eastside Baby Corner.
The experience was truly heartwarming and greatly satisfying. So to everyone who so generously donated (especially my wonderful husband!!), I want to give you a heartfelt THANK YOU for giving so generously. EVERY gift was appreciated.
