“Experience Barnegat Bay” is a unique offering of interactive interpretive programs led by the experienced staff of the Natural Resource Education Foundation of NJ.
Located on 194 acres of diverse coastal habitat, including maritime forest, tidal creeks, salt marshes, a fresh pond and more, The Lighthouse Center is dedicated to teaching individuals about the history of Barnegat Bay. During a visit, guests can take part in nature photography, bird watching, crabbing, fishing and relaxing.

Programs are held at the DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education, located along the bayshore in Waretown, Ocean County, NJ. The Center is situated on 194 acres of diverse coastal habitat including maritime forest, salt marshes, tidal creeks, a freshwater pond, brackish impoundments and a sandy beach with access to Barnegat Bay.

Comprehensive curriculum guides will be provided to teachers and group leaders prior to your visit. All curriculum materials are correlated to the NJ Core Content Curriculum Standards, and include objectives, pre-trip and follow-up activities, and reproducible student worksheets. Clipboards, field guides and all necessary equipment for each program will be provided. Programs can be custom designed for any grade level or special interest. Each program is planned as a 2-3 hour (1/2 day session.)
