My Grandmother was a Geneologist

My Grandmother was a Geneologist.

She lived on Capitol Hill near the Archives.

Sometimes  when I do massive research on an upcoming listing or case, I know where I get this from.

A recent topic of  family conversation has been about scanning her life's work.

She researched the Valentine Family line for her entire life.

It is all in bags. We have the bags, we have the Fujitsu Scanners and we have the college students.

I have brought it up a lot the last year.

Then factor in some random thoughts the other day.

I realized I did not have anything that belonged to this Grandmother.

Just random thoughts.

Fast forward a few days.

My Mom received a letter in the mail from a distant Valentine relative who returned a letter my Grandmother wrote 25 years ago. 1990. Yep.

My Mother forwarded it. The typewriter font was exactly the same. The signature was the same.

And now I have something that belonged to my Grandmother. Days later.

It was a very sweet letter just like she always was. It talked about her Geneology work and relatives who had been in the Revolutionary War.

But even more than the GIFT of the letter is the family decision to SCAN her life's work.

As in NOW. She is dancing in HEAVEN for sure. I can hear her tap dancing away.

Most folks like to share their experience with the youngesters.

Old photos what they do .... sweet memories.

Many ended up writing modern history....

Very good.

PPS:

I am in a small rural town I have more scanned images of pioneer families than the family members. Many pioneer families ask me about their family and old photos.  I went to the local cemetery today meeting the new intern. No wonder their family home is on the market for sale. These people are still around in a different world.

Good Tuesday morning Cheryl. Most of the older folks do have a lot of memories as to what the area used to look like. It is neat to look at the past.

Cheryl, the scanned photos and docs would make wonderful flash drive gifts for family members. My brother-in-law made videos of my dad's birthday parties from his 80th-87th... and provided the videos on CDs .. it is great to look at these parties and see my dad, and siblings.
