Growing a really good real estate team can be a challenge as well as financially rewarding There are many Do's and Don'ts and the one word of caution is this: Don’t pick someone so close to you that you can’t have a serious “straight talk” business conversation. You need someone with whom you are not uncomfortable disagreeing. And keep in mind that this person will at some point become quite intimate with your entire financial picture.
Keep in mind that you are going to be spending a lot of time with your agent so his or her style had better be compatible with yours. So to get in the right frame of mind here are some questions to ask yourself first before you begin:
Do you need someone easygoing or someone aggressive? I like working with someone similar to my personality, as long as that agent is easygoing and a great sense of humor. But you say, “I may not like him, but he is a real bulldog and will fight for a deal.” You know what? If you don’t like this agent, then chances are no one else will either.
So I have laid out 10 questions to ask your potential buyers agent to determine if he is the right person:
1. Do you prefer to work with buyers or sellers?
2. What cities or neighborhoods do you prefer to work ?
3. Are you ok with doing Open Houses?
4. Are you a full time or part time agent?
5. How many transactions did you do last year ?
6. How many buyers are you currently working with right now?
7. Have you ever had any complaints against you with the Real Estate Commission or the Board of Realtors?
8. How many years of experience do you have?
9. What drives you crazy about Real Estate?
10. What is your income goal if you were to become a buyers agent?
Picking the right person is very important and understanding his/her personality to key to picking the right person. If you find someone who is only looking to work your leads then you will probably want to move on to another person.
