Winter season will be upon us this coming week. . . . with temperatures into the 30's at night and snow forecast in a few days. . . here are a few reminders of winter safety tips.
Slow down when the roads are wet or slushy. . . the roads get slippery fast when the temperature drops below 30 degrees. When a police or firedepartment vehicle is on the roadside at an accident, please move over quickly.
An annual check of your furnace by a heating professional with make sure everything is in working order. Also make sure you have plenty of furnace filters on hand so you can change them atleast once a month. Clean the area around your furnace of lint and dust, and do not store any chemicals within 4 feet of your furnace or water heater.
Make sure you get your fireplace chimney checked out this season if you plan on buring wood. The fire department responds to several chimney fires that would be eliminated with proper maintenance.
Change your batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
Check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are safe and warm. Shovel their sidewalks and driveways to help keep them safe.
