The annual Veterans Day Parade will be held in Downtown Reno this Wednesday, November 11 (rain or shine). This year’s theme is “Honoring those who served and sacrificed to preserve freedom - WWII 70th Anniversary” (all veterans will participate).
The parade customarily begins at 11:11 a.m., the route starts at the corner of 2nd Street and N. Virginia Street and will flow north on Virginia Street, passing under the Reno Arch and ending at 5th Street. (There has been a change in the traditional route due to construction of the new Virginia Street Bridge.)

The Grand Marshal will be Mr. Ivan Bell Woodford, Nevada's oldest veteran at 105 years old. Deputy Grand Marshals will be Mr. Robert McGinty, U.S. Army Air Corps, who will be 100-years-old next year, and Ms. Beatrice Thayer, SSG, E-6, U.S. Army/Air Force, WWII, Cold War, and Nevada Army National Guard Retired, 1945-59 and 1973-1982.
Come early with your family and friends to secure a good viewing location along the parade route. There are locations for folding chairs if you come early enough. This parade attracts a large number of submissions you're sure to enjoy - ROTC groups from regional high schools, university and high school marching bands, honor guards and other groups representing all the services, other groups wanting to honor the military service of our veterans, and groups representing various veterans' organizations.
The true intention of the City of Reno Veterans Day Parade is to honor the service of our Veterans and to acknowledge our currently serving military. It is a non-partisan, non-political event, and may not be used as a platform for any other purpose or political agenda. Any individual or group that attempts to use the Parade as a forum for this purpose will be denied participation, and will forfeit any expenses incurred.
Armistice Day was established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919 to commemorate the end of conflicts in WWI (The Great War) with an armistice that went into effect on November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m. Armistice Day was officially recognized as a national holiday with an act passed by Congress on May 13, 1938.
