Burrr can Alaska Bob handle the cold in Alaska?

With temps in the low 40's hitting Las Vegas and the Bay Area, Vegas Bob aka Alaska Bob is a little worried ...

As I leave the home at 5:30 am and start my car, there is frost on my windows ;o(

And after living in Las Vegas and playing in Southern California, I am really unsure about living in Alaska all year long.

I am no spring chicken and as my body gets older, the joints in my bones become more fragile  to the cold temperatures ;o/

All I can say is I have to give it a try, my wife moved up there over one year ago, and she wants me to keep her warm.

Anyway, as the years pass by, we can choose to spend the winters in warmer climates like snow birds ;o)

Hi Robert (Alaska Bob) Swetz I was wondering WHY you wanted to do this. OK, I guess that is a valid reason, but why did she move up there?

I thought you married someone who lived there, had no idea you married someone who up and moved there afterward.  I'd be telling her to move her butt back to the lower 48 where winters are warm.  No way could I live in Alaska

Have you experienced a "white out" yet AB? I spent 6 winter months there and can relate to dem bones, dem rattlin' bones! I'd suffer through it again to be humbled by the beauty and vastness of its wildlife and scenery.

Robert (Alaska Bob) Swetz I know some parts of Alaska are actually warmer than North Dakota but we do have more daylight during the winter. The nice thing about harsh winters is you really appreciate the other 3 seasons more. Also as you mentioned you really get to know your family when you have so much cabin fever time. The best advice I can give you is find some good, non-combative board/card games to play (and let your spouse win one every once in awhile).

This girl has no desire to move back to a cold weather state. I spent my entire youth in Michigan. Snow is nice to visit now but not to live in. I hope you are investing in some high quality jackets!

A big roaring fire in the fireplace and some hot chocolate and you will be fine.  We all seem to adapt to our environment.  I guess you just have to do a pro and con list.  You love the scenery and the people in Alaska.  That's a huge PRO.  Give it a try!!!!  What do you have to lose?

Hello Bill and it's funny you should ask!

My wife moved up to Alaska approx 6 months before we were married, spur of the moment.

She was tired of Las Vegas and she lined up a job in Anchorage before she moved.

Hello Tammy ... before my wife married me she had been a widow for 9 years. Her husband that passed away lived in Alaska for over 11 years.

He always told her how beautiful Alaska was and before he died he mentioned to her to go there.

So she did and feel in love with the beauty of Alaska ...

We have spoken about spending the winters in Myanmar or the Philippines during the winters.

She owns properties in both countries and from November to March the climates is very warm in Southeast Asia ;o)
