Public Inquiry in Britain concerning the death of former KGB operative Alexander Litvinenko was completed in London.
And after this long time we read what we knew from day one. That it was Putin, who stood behind.
How could we know that? It was pretty simple. Those former KGB operatives not only defected, but allowed themselves the freedom to criticize the regime, KGB, and even unimaginable – Putin himself. Not simply criticizing, but rather implicating him in involvement in some very serious crimes.
So, there is a personal motif…
But I do not believe that it was the primary reason.
While Alexander Litvinenko was a real KGB operative, Putin was simply running a cultural affairs agency, which was under the KGB auspices. Yes, he worked in KGB, but he was pretty much a nobody. A mediocrity...
Putin was responsible for arranging meetings with visitors from Moscow, arranging lunches and dinners, their entertainment, airplane tickets, meeting them at the airport and taking them around…
Those guys were better than Putin, who never got the assignment of real field work. It was a career without the fanfare… And he was and is jealous. But now, being a macho, he takes revenge over those guys. He is now playing James Bond...
The plot to kill Litvinenko was quite sophisticated, the weapon used was never used before. It was highly dangerous polonium 210, and the strain used was pure and could only be gotten from the reactor. It costs millions and not something that regular folks can get their hands on. It was the operation in the best traditions of KGB, and it nearly worked. This radioactive substance without taste or smell, was not traceable by any means except for very fine Radioactive control, which is not normally carried in Hospitals and this is why it was chosen. Litvinenko was supposed to die and we were not supposed to ever learn how. But the doctors suspected radiation could play the role and Litvinenko was tested and scientists have detected the traces of polonium 210. It was one day prior to his death. But nothing could save him, even if they could figure it out earlier. Once he sipped tea from his cup, he was doomed.
The killers live comfortable life in Russia. One even became the legislator and is in Duma (Russian Parliament). And he was awarded a medal for “great contribution…”.
Of course, I love this PC wording in the Public Inquiry, all highly hypothetical, is understandable. It was not a criminal court … but yet it is very strong language.
For those of us, who lived in the USSR, it is not just that Putin approved the killing and the method of this killing, but that he is the one who ordered the killing to silence the foe and send the message to others.
Are we going to keep doing business with Russia “ because Russia is important”? Well, I have very little trust that we would hear anything from our President…
After all Putin is not a Global Warming. He is just a nice guy deciding who lives and who dies. Even if they are citizen of other countries.
