This Is Not The Hot Seat - Thermal Imaging Finds A Cold Spot!

This is not the hot seat - thermal imaging finds a cold spot!

Having a look at the master bathroom shower, Mighty Mo found a cold spot.

It is the left side seat.  The right side seat isn't so bad.  But don't sit on the left!

Yikes!  That's chilly willy!

That's that it looks like when you and I view the shower.

The thermal image shows what that seat looks like to Mighty Mo!

So, you're having a nice, warm shower and decide to sit down to wash your feet.  Tell me, which side would you  choose?

My recommendation:  you never know what lurks behind the tile!  In this case, a poor insulation job along the wall, and in that corner, is influencing the shower seat.  There is only one way you could know that BEFORE your shower - with a thermal camera.  If you don't have a thermal camera, you'd have to take the shower and test the seat with your thermal backside...   You can find out either way!

Good Saturday morning Jay Markanich -

Just this week one of our local home inspectors showed me his 'new' type of thermal imagining tester. I found it a very cool tool.

Good to hear John!  Mighty Mo has been around for almost 14 years!

The thermal camera is the sharpest arrow in my quiver.

In this shower Mighty Mo isn't really necessary, Wayne.  Depending on your objective, of course.

Jay Markanich Perhaps the builder planned the shower in this manner so the person taking the shower would have a choice if he wished to be on the 'Hot' or 'Cold' seat depending on his mood for the day?

In my house, S&N, I am always on the hot seat, even when I am not trying.

Or so it seems...

A cool seat... sometimes better than being on the hot seat. :)

Depends on how hot the shower Judi!

In my house I am the famous hot seat sitter.  Or infamous, depending on the point of view.

Good morning Jay,

If conserving water the better half would make sure it was a cold shower for me and it would be the left seat!

Make yourself an astonishing day.

I see a lot of those seats in showers---I have often wondered how often they ever get used for anything besides the shampoo bottle.

Raymond - exert yourself and call dibbs!

Charlie - perhaps to keep the shampoo fresh?

Don - makes for a cool, um, head while thinking?

There's the other side!

That would be for the hotter head while thinking, I guess...

I would choose the yellow seat, but I think they are probably used more as foot stools!

I don't know Fred, I can see myself turning both shower heads onto me and sit there and take in a nappie!

That thermal imaging camera you have is like having xray vision. Sure does help you see issues you wouldn't otherwise.

That post that I had years about about what you and I see and what a thermal camera sees is a very popular blog out there in the sphere of popular blogs, Chris Ann.  And you just said why.

It was the subject of my first Inspection Reflection too.

Mighty Mo saves the day again, but I bet they are wishing they had a pre-drywall inspection at this point.  Not sure how to fix this problem without significant effort.

Stephen - I did a pre-drywall inspection and the insulation wasn't in yet!  And I said to be sure the insulation got done well in the wall behind the shower and extended all the way to the floor!

Queu Beethoven music - da, da, da, duuuuum.
