What a Waste

By
Home Inspector with Complete Home Inspections, Inc. TN Lic#050

Life is full of surprises especially in new home construction. Sadly, there is an element of society that seems to want to get something for nothing. The Universe in which we live is full of abundance and we live in a Nation that has unlimited potential for good and gaining abundance if we but apply ourselves and think of the possibilities. I really felt bad for this builder because the $8,000 in HVAC equipment that was stolen will most likely be junked and sold for a few dollars in some scrap yard.

And that my friends, is my 2¢’s worth for the day.

Ugh, stealing HVAC unit is one I have not heard of yet. Unfortunately the criminals will stop at nothing to get a few bucks.

We had a few thefts like this in our county in year's past.  It seems that security cameras and tie-down chains are becoming more common.

Builders here actually install outdoor appliances last minute.  And employ someone to live on site after the outdoor appliances are installed.

Good morning Michael. I long for the days when you could leave your keys in your car with the windows down. Enjoy your day!

This is a good story to share. One of the risks of vacant homes is that ourside equipment is more likely to be stolen. Sadly, new construction sites are favorite targets.

Hi Michael - I don't think it will be sold for scrap, it's probably stolen and resold by a shady HVAC company. They probably have a customer who needs a new one, and they ordered this one. Unfortunately it happens, and they rarely get caught, because who's going to question an HVAC tech removing the HVAC system?

I just sold a VA repo and one of the units was missing and one remained. We couldn't figure out why they didn't take both unless the remaining one was too heavy. It's just plain mean.

Michael, it is such a shame that there are people who do so much harm for so little gain in return.

Michael I never thought that anyone would steal an HVAC unit.  Guess I have lived a sheltered life.

We have also experienced the theft of both air conditioner and pool equipment from new  homes ready to close.

Good luck and success.

Michael, Jay did an inspection for me a few years ago where we thought that the "new" CAC had been pilfered from a nearby county foreclosure.  Maybe the thief sold it to a flipper.

Michael- oh these thieves!  Get a job... a real legitimate one!  When our friend's house burned and they had to move out while it was being rebuilt, Larry suggested that they have the A/C company remove and store their brand new A/ units to protect them from these thieves.
