As part of the inspection process for most States, inspectors are required to test smoke detectors for functionality. For the most part, current standards require smoke detectors to be interconnected so that if one goes off, they all go off.
As luck would have it, the first detector failed to work so I decided to check to see if it was even connected. Sure enough, it wasn't. I generally find that things work better when the electrician finishes the job . . . now it is up to the homeowner to pay for an electrician to correct what the builder’s electrician failed to do. So much for 'Codes' inspections.
And that my friends, is my 2¢’s worth for this evening. - M
