Last night, I had the most wonderful time seeing the play, Dancing Lessons, at the Flynn Space. The play was directed by one of my former real estate clients, Cristina Alicea, and starred local actors Cael Barkman and Andrew Butterfield. I could not have enjoyed it more.
Dancing Lessons has only two characters, a passionate professional dancer who suffered a career ending injury and her autistic neighbor with Aspbergers. The neighbor, who does not like to be touched, wanted to learn how to dance for an awards dinner he was being honored at, so he asked his depressed neighbor for lessons. The two became best friends and fell in love.
It is a very sweet, heartwarming story and was full of comedy. I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud. They really did a wonderful job with the story and were very sensitive to how two people from such different worlds can share the same problems, fears and struggles. It was so well done.
There are two performances left for anyone lucky enough to get a ticket to this fine production.
