Monet's Water Lilies' Descendents

If you find yourself in Paris, there is a side trip you can take that is sort of like a time machine.  It's a little town called Giverny, about an hour north and west of Paris.  The garden has all kinds of beautiful flowers, but the big attraction are the water lilies that inspired the amazing panels that are a huge part of Monet's legacy.

This is a photo that I took when I visited the gardens on a sunny autumn afternoon, and I love to come across the photos of this enchanted place.

Grandma's home town in China looks like this photo. In the summer people in wooden tubs cuts lotus roots etc.

That Venice village outside of Shanghai became a tourist trap and is in over 100 films.  The last one was by Tom Cruise running for Mission Impossible.....

Thanks for posting.

Sheila, on your next trip to Paris, it's a really fun day trip.  The gardens are lovely and his house has been preserved and is open to the public.  I was there is fall but want to go back one of these days in May to see all of the spring blooms.

Hi Pat - I suspect we know the same Paris. I made the trip to Giverny many years ago to stand exactly there and take the same photo - well worth the time.

Wow Patricia ...

Beautiful photo and the purple pink water lilies are very similar to ones I saw in Mandalay Myanmar.

There are women on a island on a very famous lake that are called longneck Burmese women. When they are as young as 12 years old traditional rings are put on their necks permanently. Maybe 10 brass rings total and these women weave clothing from the stems of the water lilies, it is amazing.

Robert,  wow!  I'm getting uncomfortable thinking about having a rings around my neck.  What happens when the 12-year old becomes a chubby old lady?

I love this, thanks for sharing. I've been through Paris but never got tot see it. I plan to return for a couple weeks in the next 5 years to venture out into my partial heritage. Yes, this Irish / Italian has a bit of French blood too.
