Lotta Balls Bouncing -- Agressive Time Management
A few years ago I was working in Engineering Research and Development. We were working on creating new products and building prototypes and systems. I hired an outside consultant with extensive military experience. His name was BJ and he was hired for and proved himself to be a great expediter.
One of the things I often heard BJ say was "Got a lotta balls bouncing." By this he meant that he had started a lot of action and a lot of work by people mostly outside of our immediate development group.
- It meant that he had placed work orders to have work done in our own R&D shop.
- It meant that he had generated purchase orders with outside vendors.
- BJ had a great impact on what my group could accomplish by effectively enlarging our workforce.
- He was great at following up on the orders he had given.
- BJ was great at solving problems and expediting the things that needed to happen.
If you want to manage your time effectively, one of the best ways is to look for opportunities to get assistants, vendors -- anyone you can find, to actively work to help you with the tasks that need to be done. Get everything delegated!
For me, that means looking at all the things I want to accomplish and getting as many people as possible to work on my tasks at the same time.
It also means that I need to set my own priorities to work FIRST on getting all the delegation work done before working on things I need to do myself.
